1st chick funeral

See the little guy in between the two bigger chicks. well yesterday he wasn't doing so well and today he died.

I guess if they get turned on their side and get trampled by the other chicks that will kill them :( I'm guessing that's what happened on the way home yesterday. So Ben dug a hole and Kaitlen put the chick in it and Cody said the eulogy, "He was a good Chickie".
Matthew knew he was getting ready to die so Matthew held him. Matthew is such an animal lover.

Well, the one guy I initially emailed never emailed back again, which is fine because he made it seem impossible to raise chicks and there is more to it than 'raising' them. Well, I figure I've kept Tiki (our bird) happy and healthy for 5 years now. I can handle chickens. Today was Matthews Easter party at school and Abbie was in no mood for it so Ab and I went to Tractor supply and what did we hear???? little bitty chicks chirping away. So i got 11 chicks. 6 of them are Rhode Island Reds and 5 are Bantams.

This was right when we got home and i realized i forgot bedding for them, lol.

This is what a Rhode Island red looks like all grown.

These are some Bantams. I guess they can have a variety of looks and they are naturally small birds and lay really small eggs. hmmmm, should have read up on them before getting them. I figured they cost .50¢ more than the others, that there was something special with them.

Pink eye

I haz it. Thanks Abbie. She has a cold and she always gets it in her eyes too. So she decided to share it with me and I woke up with goopy, puffy, red eyes. I look hot!! I just hope the school kids don't get it. Abbie is a trooper. She's rocking her baby and eating grapefruit right now.

Ok, you know how Cody was sick on Spring Break. That Saturday he seemed much better and we went to the Museum and then Sunday night he had a fever and was down and out again so we kept him home on Monday and he went back to school on Tues. So tues, he gets home goes straight to bed and sleeps through dinner and eventually gets up, eats and goes back to bed. He does this on Wed and Thurs too. So i told myself if he goes into my bed on Friday I'll take him to the Dr. Well, he fell asleep in the car on the way home from school and instead of going to my bed he layed on the couch and watched tv. So i didn't take him. Our weekend was lazy, he didn't have to do anything and we did nothing. So today he goes to school, comes home, goes to my bed and goes to sleep. SOOOO, do i take him to the Dr. Can he possibly still be getting over the bug. Ben even suggested a growth spurt. So, IDK. Once we took him to the Dr for a persistant cough and it turned out he had a bad sinus infection. So, that makes me wonder if there is something hiding in there making him tired and we don't know.

I Heart Potatoes

I was putting the potatoes up and notice a conjoined potato. Cute. I should plant that one and have our own special conjoined twin potato patch, lol.

I'm so doing it

I emailed my order in for 25 chicks. They normally sell them in lots of 50, but if someone wants the other 25 then they will do it. They will grow up to look like this and the Hens will lay our eggs and the Roosters- well, just call them dinner. Once I get the hang of it I'll order more chicks.

Chick update: we are getting them in May/June (next batch)so that it's warmer and I have more time to learn and prepare for them.

First- Prayers for sweet Kennedy. She is a sickie one right now. She is staying over night in the hospital to get her back on track. When she gets sick her body does it up real good and it becomes mission impossible to keep her out of the hospital. Pray she feels better fast.

Found out today that Kaitlen's Softball team is going to be called the Ladybugs. Which is good. Last year they were the Sluggers and this yr Ben got the FOP to sponsor the team so the shirt would have said Sluggers with the FOP logo underneath it (Fraternal Order of Police). Made me giggle when i thought about it.

Now almost 10 yrs ago I got a thermo scan that was made by Philips and looked just like the exergen. It was a life saver because I had to check codys temperature several times a day for his first yr of life because of his kidney and since it was fast and accurate it made it a no big deal kinda thing.

Kaitlen today

Yesterday Kaitlen was telling me that she wanted to wear a dress for her class picture and that she wasn't wearing a shirt under it. (it's still cold here) I had to stop off at one of those Dollar type stores to get peroxide. I saw some dresses and they had her size so for 8$ i surprised her with a new dress. She was pretty excited. They had the same dress with red dots, but not in her size. It was super cute too!! So today, she dressed like it was 80 outside. I sent a change of warm clothes in her backpack. Good Luck Mrs P. getting Kaitlen to change out of the dress.

Dad update

Tina finally talked to the Dr and the problem was a combination of the dye they injected into Dad for the procedure and all the darn meds he is on. So they are adjusting his meds and he is to get a real Dr and stop this VA crap.


Thank you everyone for the prayers. If all goes as planned he should go home tomorrow.

Prima Princessa and a giveaway!!

We were so excited to get the chance to review Prima Princessa. Just from seeing the cover Kaitlen was about to burst!!

I'm not sure you can get any more adorable than on this DVD. At first the kids are glued as this adorable little ballerina fairy, Prima Princessa comes across the screen with her fairy sprinkles glittering all over. She takes you on a ballet adventure. You get to see the IX acts of Swan Lake by the Paris Opera Ballet and the kids learn some history on Peter Tchaikovsky.
In between acts the girls get to be the Prima Ballerina, learning the moves of ballet through very fun, funny, and creative demonstrations.

What was Matthew thinking at this point??... "they have a boy in ballet, that's awesome" (insert a slight speech problem and a Boston accent to get the full effect :) ) Yes, i know he was born and raised in Arkansas his whole 4 yrs of life. We have no idea where the accent comes from.

By act II Abbie and Kaitlen are following along with the ballet. Way to cute, i expected Kaitlen too because she has done ballet, but i was surprised when Abbie did too, and Abbie is only 2 y/o.

This would be great for any little girl. Perfect for the Easter basket, fun times when it's raining outside and little ones are antsy. I also thought it would be fun to have on in the background at a birthday party so the girls could dance around while playing.

As soon as it ended Kaitlen immediately asked if she could watch it again. She watched it again and had just as much fun as the first time.

Can I just say Flamingos=Giggles, every time!!! I know your curious now.

Update on Dad

Tina finally got to Portland and I finally got to talk to Dad. He sounded good. That made me feel so much better. They are trying to figure out what is making his blood pressure and heart rate drop. He's had a CT, MRI and echo done and all seems fine. The Dr will be in later tonight, but they talked to the nurse who talked to the cardio dr who says he may be getting a pacemaker. I'll update as I know more.

My Dad

Please pray for our Dad. He is in the hospital with low BP and a low heart rate. Yesterday he had a procedure done where they go up you femoral artery and into the heart (angiogram??) That's when it happened/started. Please pray they 'fix' it.
