My Mammo

Was clear!!! What a relief. They even did a breast ultrasound too. That was extremely normal too. So i don't need a mammo again until im 40 and then yearly after that. For now i just have my yearly pap and breast exam at my MD's.

Ok, the actual mammogram. You hear horror stories. "squished like a pancake", "so barbaric it had to be made by a man". I was so flippin nervous when i went in and after she did my lt breast i was like THAT'S IT?!?!?!?!? I even asked her why people make up all these horror stories, thats not really fair ladies!! so she continued on to my Rt and then side views of Lt and then Rt. Done. there was no pain and on a discomfort scale from 0-10 it was a big fat zero! I'd take a mammo over a pap any day.
Now if someone has a tumor/cyst/surgery/radiation i can see there being pain/discomfort. but for your normal everyday person going for their routine mammo, not seeing it.

Whew! Praise God it was clear! :) And thanks for the heads up that it is not so bad. I'm going to have to do that one day! LOL

Lisa ~ So glad things went well and you got a clean bill of health ... BUT, I have to speak up for those of us who have horror stories to tell. My theory is this: If you have medium to large breasts and pick the time of month you schedule your mammo (i.e, NOT two days before AF), it's really not such a big deal.

For those of us who are not so well endowed, it is HORRIBLE. They start at the rib cage tugging and pulling trying to get enough breast to sandwich between the two plexi plates. And then you're forbidden to breathe until all shots are taken lest the precariously positioned tissue wiggle free and they have to start all over again.

With my family history of breast CA, I am religious about having mammos done every year, but I have to tell you, I would rather have my toenails pulled out with pliers. It would certainly be more pleasant! :-)

When the Breast Center called me to schedule i almost cried because the soonest appt was 2 days before AF was to arrive. So horror stories and enlarged tender breast was sounding so so bad, lol. That so wasn't my plan. I had it in my head that it would be scheduled 2 weeks before AF but for some reason they were really booked up. So i said ok to the appt hoping the pill would make a difference. I think it did. They plumped but not as tender. Sadly even after 4+ months of weaning Abbie i haven't got my B's back. I'm very much a C and I miss my B's. Im guessing now that being a C was a good thing! I was so nervous that i didn't eat until after my appt because i was afraid I'd throw up. crazy huh. I got out of there after 3pm.
I'm sorry to hear that it is so horrible for you. I hope you treat yourself to something special afterward.
Don't you love how they tell you the results before you leave. You would never ever get that in Ca.

wonder if it will hurt if you have fake breast?

I should probably add that pulling from your ribs must be normal procedure because they did that to me too. All breast tissue was pulled up put on the plate, stretched out and flatten then an added tighter squeeze by hand adjustment of the machine. I'm glad to hear that procedure is the same across the breast size board ensuring all tissue is imaged.
again, I don't want women who have never had one to unnecessarily to worry. I also don't want small breasted women to think its done differently for them because of there size.
