Lakewood PD (Wa) lost four

Sgt. Mark Renninger, 39
Officers Ronald Owens, 37
Tina Griswold, 40
Greg Richards, 42
In Remembrance . . .
The Monument
I never dreamed it would be me
My name for all eternity
Recorded here at this hallowed place
Alas, my name, no more my face.
"In the line of duty" I hear them say
My family now the price will pay
My folded flag stained with their tears
We only had those few short years.
The badge no longer on my chest
I sleep now in eternal rest
My sword I pass to those behind
And pray they keep this thought in mind.
I never dreamed it would be me
And with heavy heart and bended knee
I ask for all here from the past
Dear God, let my name be the last.

When God Made Peace Officers

When God Made Peace officers....

When the Lord was creating peace officers, He was into his sixth day of overtime when an Angel appeared and said,"Lord, you're doing a lot of fiddling around on this one." And the Lord said," have you read the specs on this order? A peace officer has to be able to run five miles through alleys in the dark, scale walls, enter homes the health inspector wouldn't touch, and not wrinkle his uniform. He has to be able to sit in an undercover car all day on a stakeout, cover a homicide scene that night, canvass the neighborhood for witnesses, and testify in court the next day. He has to be in top physical condition at all times, running on black coffee and half-eaten meals. And he has to have six pairs of hands."
The Angel shook her head slowly and said,"six pairs of hands... no way."
"It's not the hands the causing me problems," said the Lord, " it's the three pairs of eyes an officer has to have." "That's on the standard model?" asked the Angel. The Lord nodded,"One pair that sees through the bulge in a pocket before he asks,"May I see what's in there, sir?" Another pair in the side of his head for his partners safety. And another pair of eyes here in front, that can look reassuringly at a bleeding victim and say,"You'll be all right ma'am,' when he knows she won't"
"Lord," said the Angel, touching his sleeve, "rest and work on this tomorrow." "I can't," said the Lord, "I already have a model that can talk a 250 pound drunk into a patrol car without incident, and feed a family of five on a civil service paycheck." The Angel circled the model of the peace officer very slowly, "Can it think?" she asked.
"You bet," said the Lord. "It can tell you the elements of a hundred crimes; recite Miranda warnings in it's sleep; detain, investigative, search and arrest a gang member on the street, in less time that it takes five learned judges to debate the legality of the stop... and still keeps its sense of humor. This officer also has phenomenal personal control. He can deal with crime scenes painted in hell, coax a confession from a child abuser, comfort a murder victim's family, and then read in the daily paper how law enforcement isn't sensitive to the rights of criminal suspects."
Finally, the Angel bent over and ran her finger across the cheek of the peace officer. "There's a leak!" she pronounced, "I told you that you were trying to put too much into this model." "That's not a leak," said the Lord, "It's a tear." "What's the tear for?" asked the Angel. "It's for bottled up emotions; for fallen comrades; for commitment to that funny piece of cloth called the American Flag; and for justice," said the Lord
"Your a genius," said the Angel.
The Lord looked somber. "I didn't put it there," He said.

Bens Bday cake- yum

Ben told me that I'm not to do anything for his birthday and not to tell the kids because then they would want to do something and buy him stuff. His bday isn't until the 28th and he has to work. Soooooo, on Monday I emailed my local baker ( I know her) and told her what I wanted and to not say anything to Ben if she happens to see him :) Ben had Friday and Saturday off and it worked out great because he worked over time thurs night. So thursday after school I took the kids to pick out somethings for daddy and that they better not say A THING or they wouldn't get a piece of cake(it worked). On Fri I took the kids to school while he slept. Which made it easy for me to pick up the cake without him.

When Ben was sleeping I quickly decorated the table, brought out his present from hidding and waited for him and the younger two to wake up.

Ben was surprised when he got up and the sucky thing was that we had to wait until the evening before eating the cake!!!
We picked the kids up from school early, went for my MRI, ate dinner at Coltons (i was starved and Kaitlen had a free meal thing from school), then we came home and finally got to eat that yummy cake.

side notes- yes I know his present was warpped in pink paper. It was all i had. And yes I know the razorback looks more pink than red especially by the pink box :)

His cake- It's a Razorback cop and its actually on a road, lol. How cute is that?? She did a great job.

Made Ben a twitter account and page

ok, Ben can't stand computers and only uses them because he has to at work. I've made him a Myspace page and he sometimes uses it. I made him a blog because I really think you all would enjoy what he has to say, but he doesn't blog on there. So now I made him a Twitter account. He seemed kinda intrigued by twitter. So we'll see if it take with him. Now the stuff on his twitter page I have twitted for him. He just tells me to keep tweeting it. LOL.

Now for the SWAT pic. Their department will be starting a SWAT team. They will also be getting two police dogs. I think some of the officers have gone to the SWAT school and Ben and the rest will be going in Oct?? IDR. So Ben and the guys are very excited.

This and That and Kennedy!

First- Prayers for sweet Kennedy. She is a sickie one right now. She is staying over night in the hospital to get her back on track. When she gets sick her body does it up real good and it becomes mission impossible to keep her out of the hospital. Pray she feels better fast.

+++++++++++++

Found out today that Kaitlen's Softball team is going to be called the Ladybugs. Which is good. Last year they were the Sluggers and this yr Ben got the FOP to sponsor the team so the shirt would have said Sluggers with the FOP logo underneath it (Fraternal Order of Police). Made me giggle when i thought about it.

+++++++++++++

Bens working a Lil' Wayne concert. That outta be a blast.

+++++++++++++

Bens taking us out to dinner tomorrow. Yeah, I don't have to cook!! I don't remember where we are going.

A sad day in Law Enforcement

3 Sgts with the Oakland PD have been shot and killed and an officer was shot and is not expected to live.

ETA- i am updating, the 4th officer has passed away :(
updating again- The 4th officer is brain dead and they are keeping him on life support until they figure out the organ donation. Many people will live through his families decision to donate his organs.

I can not imagine what their department and families are going through.

Please sign this petition

Officer Danny Faulkner was MURDERED and now people want to name a street after the COP KILLER. There has been a petition started to stop this. Please sign this petition. And also, please do not eat Ben and Jerry's they have supported this cop killer. Back in LA, we were asked by LASD to boycott B&J and we have. To this day i have never had B&J, and never will.
there is also a facebook group if you'd like to join it.
I'm signature #48859. What are you?

On December 9, 1981, at approximately 3:55 a.m., Officer Danny Faulkner, a five year veteran of the Philadelphia Police Department, made a traffic stop at Locust Street near Twelfth Street. The car stopped by Officer Faulkner was being driven by William Cook. After making the stop, Danny called for assistance on his police radio and requested a police wagon to transport a prisoner. Unbeknownst to him, William Cook's brother, Wesley (aka Mumia Abu-Jamal) was across the street. As Danny attempted to handcuff William Cook, Mumia Abu-Jamal ran from across the street and shot the officer in the back. Danny turned and was able to fire one shot that struck Abu-Jamal in the chest; the wounded officer then fell to the pavement. Mumia Abu-Jamal stood over the downed officer and shot him four more times at close range, once directly in the face. Mumia Abu-Jamal was found still at the scene of the shooting by officers who arrived there within seconds. The murderer was slumped against the curb in front of his brother's car. In his possession was a .38 caliber revolver that records showed Mumia had purchased months earlier. The chamber of the gun had five spent cartridges. A cab driver, as well as other pedestrians, had witnessed the brutal slaying and identified Mumia Abu-Jamal as the killer both at the scene and during his trial. On July 2, 1982, after being tried before a jury of ten whites and two blacks, Mumia Abu-Jamal was convicted of murdering Officer Danny Faulkner. The next day, the jury sentenced him to death after deliberating for two hours. The Supreme Court of Pennsylvania heard the defendant's appeals and upheld the conviction on March 6, 1989.

Officer Danny Faulkner joined the ranks of those courageous officers who have given their lives to keep our nation's streets safe and free. Danny and his wife, Maureen, had been married only slightly more than a year. Now, she was left a widow with only her memories of the young officer to comfort her and dreams of the life they could have shared together. Danny and Maureen Faulkner are the real victims of that horrible night in December, 1981. It is for them that we seek justice and the reason this site stands strong today. Please visit the many places on this site put together to help create awareness. Remember to spread the word.

Forgotten pics

I always seem to forget i take pics with my cell.
I forget what day we hung out at the PD during the Ice Storm during Ben's shift.
Could have been day 2 cause I didn't bring my camera.
We were actually at the substation.

Thomas catching up online.....

What do you do when daddy is out on a call??
draw him pictures and put them up on his monitor!!

and what kind of pics do you draw your cop dad?? pig pics, lol. I laughed when I saw it and Kaitlen kept asking what i was laughing at.
It's a pool, a pig, and a girl in a swimsuit. :)

Abbie sitting on the Segway.

Matthew, just after robbing a bank, lol. ok, that is not a real gun. It is a model for their training stuff.

Way too cool!!

Ben just called me and he got to hold a PIECE OF THE MOON!!!!!!! the moon! It was a slice and it was between two pieces of glass and he said it was just surreal. The even cooler thing is that he gets to take Cody down there to see and hold it too!!!! He just has to give the guy a couple days notice. We don't know when he's gonna go, but if he can take pics i will certainly share them!!

Ben had to provide security during the inventory for NASA that's how he got to hold it :)

This was the moon at midnight last night. Did you see it?? I saw it at 5 this morning it was amazing!

Lily got the most adorable puppy for Christmas. A little Havanese named Bella. She is the softest thing on Earth.
Kisses all over the place. Abbie and Lily were kissing left and right. Though my camera was acting up i never got the pic at the right time.

Bella kisses

Awwwwww

There was a brawl or two over the puppy.

Ben stopped by and this was the last pic i got before my camera stopped taking pics.
Ashley took another one that is much better.

HAHA Ben

Not funny.

So today ben calls at 2 to tell me his department is having a bbq and the families are invited. It was at 4. So we get there at 4:05, fashionably late :) haha. Literally the second i step my foot out the car door Ben gets a call, hysterical female......., so he leaves and we head on over to were everyone is at. Give hugs to those I know, say Hi to those I don't know. But they all know me, Sgt Velasco's wife and the kids that look just like Velasco, lol. So we eat and Ben comes back and its freezing so we head over to Ashleys which we already had planned. The kids play.......... ask for everything possible to drink.......... hop in the bath with lily............ get their hair brushed........... watch Nemo........... play, jump, scream............... Bens drops by.......... we wind everything up and at 8:30 we head on out. So I call Ben to tell him we are leaving.

Me: We are leaving, I'm putting 30$ in gas in right?
Ben: yeah, 30
Ben: Where you at?
Me: ummmmm, By the ticket center
Me: hmm, Fay has someone pulled over.......... oh there's a cop car by the ticket center too. hum, they must be running radar. Do they get alot of speeders here??
(Totally and completely set myself up at that moment!)
Ben: yeah they do
Me: Good thing im going 30, i dont even know what the speed limit is. (was actually going 28)
Ben: OK, I'm gonna let you go.
Me: ok, love you
Ben: love you too
(Bam! Lights in my rear view)
Me: are you *^$#$^& kidding me i'm getting pulled over
Thomas: I really hope you found your drivers license
(I pull into a parking lot and cant see the cop car or anything because of the lights and stuff)
Me: that better be your dad.

AND SURE ENOUGH IT WAS!!!!!!!!!!!. He was the cop by the ticket center and i had just assumed he was at the dept. Fay did have someone pulled over but there was no radar set up going on, haha.

I was totally thinking why am i getting pulled over??? I wasn't speeding.

The kids were excited. So Ben goes to leave and I say dont i get a kiss. Gives me a quick kiss. The camera starts rolling when they turn the lights on. With our luck this spaz stalker (Ben and a couple of the other officers have one) will request the tapes from tonight with the Freedom of information act and put it on youtube and show what YOUR tax payers money is going toward, haha!! I'll be like his 924 or something. haha. While his wife is clueless at home raising his kids. ;)

Anyway.......... we had a great time at Ashleys house.
you couldnt see anything on M and K but they are at that age that even to much torso is enough for the sickos and Lily and ab were covered good by the water.

Sorry, Wrong Velasco

So tonight my phone rings and i look at the caller ID and it's dispatch from Bens work so im thinking why are they calling here??? Ben is at work. So i say hello, but you know when they don't hear you they end up saying hello back. Well that kinda happened and she asked who i was and I told her..........................
Here it goes..
ok- bens PD will be PD1 and the other PD will be PD2 and her name will be officerX- Ok

ME- Hello
Officer X- Hello
Me-Hi
Ofc X- who is this
Me- Lisa Velasco
Ofc x- ok, can i ask you a question?
Me- Sure (thinking this is the dispatcher from Bens work)
Ofc x- k, there are these 3 girls...... roomates..... car wreck........ not paying for it.......... stranded............ no longer firends................ class................ harassing her..................... (and on and on)
( i realize at this point they were looking for Sgt Velasco and Im thinking do i sound like a guy, LOL and she is talking NON stop!!!! lol. I realize this isn't the dispatcher and I'm thinking which female officer is this???? at this point im trying not to laugh, lol)
~ok, she stops talking~
Me- I'm Sgt Velasco's wife
Ofc x- I don't know who Sgt Velasco is
(What, LOL)
Me- Who is this?
Ofcx- This is Ofc X from PD2 I called PD1 to talk to someone about this and they transfered me to you.
Me- ahh, thats why it came up PD1 dispatch. They should have transfered you to Sgt Velasco's cell phone, but they transfered you to his house.
Me- At first i thought you were dispatch wanting another girls opinion when i realized it was police stuff, lol.
Me- let me give my husbands number............. have a good night.

2 Moo's and an Oink

I'm not sure when this will happen, but we have talked about it for a couple years. Ben and one of the other officers were talking and Ben might get two cows and a pig. Something about 50$ for the pig and it sounded like the cows were free. Something about the guy keeping a cow on our property too. Now these will not be pets. (yes i would love a cow as a pet. Why do you think i go read Pioneer Woman??? To see her Cows!! i heart cows) LOL. They would eventually be slaughtered into some nice rib eyes and pork chops. I let you know more when it gets more planned out. Of course there has to be names. I know you are not suppose to name your food, but i have too. How about Comidas for one of them? or Dim Sum? Whats another word relating to food, meals, eating in another language??

LOLOLOL

Ben was on a post today for overtime and a "cat" came through his legs rubbing his leg and he was thinking that this cat really liked him and he went to go pet it(Ben never pets cats he cannot stand them so this was odd, but he thought the cat was too friendly to not pet) and saw it was a SKUNK!! lol. He jumped up and screamed like a girl and his LT came running over thinking Ben needed help(funny he knew that was Bens girly scream) He saw the skunk and he too ran. The skunk started after them, lol. The skunk licked the outside of Bens soda so he doesn't have a soda anymore.
If i was there i would have peed my pants. I also would have pet the skunk, got myself bit and ended up with the rabies series. so it was good i wasn't there.

Old LASD paystub

I ran across one of Bens old LASD paycheck stubs. I was looking at it and it was about 2 weeks before we moved out her. So i compared his two week LASD check to his one month pay here. 5 years ago Ben made 1684.62 more in 2 weeks than he does a whole month here :(. that's 5 yrs ago PLUS he's a Sgt now. I won't even tell you what a 12 yr Deputy makes out in LA now. (He still talks to peeps out there) and of course a Sgt would make even more. I know, I know. Your thinking, houses, gas, food.... We bought our house out there before the crazy sky high prices. Things are a lot closer there. 5 minute walk to school, groceries etc.
Police Officers need to get paid better here!!!!! that's all i have to say. Gawllllll, i probably should have never found that paystub.
I love Ar, love my friends!!! love my house, love the kids school, love their Sunday school teachers, love my old pastor (we just got a new one and im trying to warm up to the change, really i am. He just has a totally different personality. Not as lively.) I love their school teachers ( i believe half of the school goes to our church, lol) it's just hard sometimes to see those number differences cause we sure could use that other money, lol.

Two Sleeps till my party!!!

Matthew is so flippin adorable!!! He is so excited for his birthday. He's loving that its all about him and for him.
We did ALL our shopping today. Here's how it went. I got up and took the kitty cats for their shots and came back home to get everyone else. So we head out to get our tire fixed........ not fixable...... don't have our tire...... We then go meet Ashley and Lily for lunch for yummy mexican food. We now head over to walmart to get party supplies and gifts. The first walmart we went to didn't have enough of what we needed but they had razorback clothing for really cheap and all the kids got something to wear for Sat and then we headed to get our oil changed. That was fast thankfully. We go to another tire shop... no luck. I then go to Hobby Lobby for a couple things and while i do that Ben goes to another tire shop.... no luck. So we swing around over to Hancocks and i get 4th of July fabric for the girls dresses and some cute police material for later. I am pretty sure this is when we head over to the other Walmart (Hello Sheryl and kiddos. We ran into them at the door). They have the Razorback stuff we needed so we get that and head over to the toys and pick out the stuff Matthew has asked for and started heading to the food section when i see 3$ clearance racks all over and i grab 30$ worth of school clothes while Ben gets the food and we head out to Party City because its a razorback baseball theme party so we needed baseball stuff. We get a pinata, banners, goody bag stuff. You can't go to walmart without going to Sams club.......... we get meat and candy and realize its dinner time so we eat pizza at Sams. We almost forgot to return some clothes i bought and decided i didn't want and we hurried over there before they closed. Then it was the part the kids had all been waiting for, Buying fireworks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so we pile out of the car and go in. An officer from Bens PD was there with his wife and kids. We stayed there shopping for fireworks and talking for almost an hour (yes, we ended up with alot of fireworks). The kids had a blast. Kaitlen has a new friend. We go home.............yea. Then i make two dress and now her i sit.
